INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE, "ABOLITION IN THE 21ST CENTURY" NEW ORLEANS, USA
"Abolition in the 21st Century," an international conference, will be held
at Loyola University in New Orleans on August 4-6. The Transnational
Radical Party and Hands Off Cain will join 200 people from organizations
such as Amnesty International, the American Civil Liberties Union, The
Episcopal Church, National Association for the Advancement of Colored
People, National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Pax Christi, and
Murder Victims for Reconciliation. The keynote address will be given by
Mojanku Gumbi, legal advisor to the Executive Deputy President, T. M. Mbeki
of South Africa. The event is sponsored by the National Coalition to
Abolish the Death Penalty.
The Transnational Radical Party was invited to speak at the Plenary session
on the U.N. motion to abolish executions worldwide which will be
reintroduced into the next U.N.'s 50th General Assembly. Hands Off Cain
will give an introduction and update on its work and then participate in
two workshops: One on the death penalty in the United States and the other
on how the international community can help fight the death penalty in the
United States.
