October 21, 1997Statement by the Representative of Ireland, Ms. Bridin O'Donoghue
[...] Mr. Chairman,
My Government fully supports the holding of the Diplomatic Conference in June and July of 1998 with a view to adopting a convention to establish an international criminal court.
My delegation would welcome the participation in the Conference of organisations that have received a standing invitation from the General Assembly to participate in its sessions and work in the capacity of observers, in such a capacity in its work. In relation to the question of the participation of non-governmental organisations in the work of the Conference, we fully support the remarks made in this regard by the distinguished representative of the Netherlands on behalf of the European Union in its statement to this Committee.
Finally, my Delegation would like to reiterate our deepest gratitude to Italy for undertaking to host this Conference.
Thank you, Mr. Chairman.
