Mr. Chairman,

With our recognition of the importance of the matter, we support the initiatives to establish the trust fund to help least-developed countries in participating in the process of codification and establishment of the ICC mentioned in paragraph 7 of General Assembly Resolution 51/207 of 17 December 1997.

Our delegation also takes this opportunity to express our thanks to the Italian Government for her offer to host the Diplomatic Conference in 1998. In our interest and with our full responsibility to the interests of the international community, our delegation would stand ready to cooperate with other states concerned and wish to make further possible contribution to the drafting process.
