Statement by H.E. Mr. Alounkeo Kittttkhoun, Ambassador Permanent Representative of the Lao People's Democratic Republic
[...] Mr. Chairman,
The preparatory committee has done a fine work but much remains to be done so that a consensus on a text can be finally achieved. Our ultimate goal should be the establishment of an international criminal Court "which is universally accepted by States. In this perspective, together we should try our best to resolve the remaining issues so as to create ripe conditions for the convening of the diplomatic conference of plenipotentiaries in Rome, next year. The matter is urgent, none of us would deny that, but since major issues are still left pending, we all have to do our utmost to resolve them. As far as the Lao PDR is concerned, we will spare no effort to contribute actively and positively to the difficult work that still lies ahead. On this note, let me wish every success to our work and to our common endeavour: the establishment of an ICC which is universally accepted by states.
Thank you.
