Over the past half a century, a great deal has been accomplished in the promotion and protection of human rights. Much injustice, most notably Apartheid, has been removed. A permanent International Criminal Court is in the process of being established. A growing number of countries now understand that the cause of human rights is an integral part of national development. Human rights instruments have become more sophisticated and action-oriented.
