Vladimir Mironov, a Russian gay man sentenced to 3 years' imprisonment under the anti-sodomy article of Russian Penal Code (art.121.1) has been granted appeal. This followed a sentence by Volvograd District People's Court. The appeal was granted by Moscow City Court which ordered a re-investigation od the case as Mironov and a lesast one other witness had retracted testimony given during the initial investigation. This testimony would have been extracted under phisical duress.Both International Lesbian and Gay Association (ILGA) and Amnesty International are calling upon their members to contact the Procurator of Moscow City, Gennady Ponomarev. He should be requested to support Mr. Mironov's appeal, which sgould result immediate acquittal.
