Why is infibulation (the removal of the clitoris), one of the most aberrant, humiliating and uncivil practices which millions of women in the Islamic are subjected to, completely ignored both by the "democratic" public opinion and by civil rights organizations?

I have long been trying to obtain an answer, but in vain: some assured me that the "phenomenon" was very limited and in any case being progressively relinquished, others appealed to the respect of different "cultures".

Finally I found a text in IPS news (N. 9385) which sheds light on this brutal practice: 74 million women, especially from Africa, are suffering the irreversible effects of this mutilation of the sexual organs. And the number of infibulations is on the rise...This mutilation is allegedly practiced also on immigrant women in Western countries.

Shouldn't we take measures at once to oppose this patent violation of human rights? Create an ad hoc committee, get in touch with other organizations to launch an international campaign?
