ROMANIA PRESIDENT DENIES PROHIBITION OF HOMOSEXUALITY
In the BBC World Service programme "It's your world with..." broadcast on 15th March, 1992, the Romanian President Ion Iliescu stated, in response to a question on the status of homosexuals there, that Parliament had not considered the issue for some time, and that existing legislation "neither encourages nor forbids homosexuality"
Unfortunately the questioner did not draw his attention to Art. 200 and 204 of the Romanian Penal Code, which absolutely forbids everybody from performing a sexual act with anybody of the same sex, and forbids all attempts to perform such acts, respectively.
