STATEMENT OF THE DEMOCRATIC LEAGUE OF KOSOVA ON THE RECENT WAVE OF REPRESSION IN KOSOVA ABOUT SERBIAN'S POLICE REPRESSION
Kosova Information Center, Prishtina, 17 august 1993
The Presidency of the Democratic League of Kosova issued today a statement on the recent escalation of repression in Kosova. The statement goes on as follows:
The Serbian Police has been exercising massive repression against Kosova Albanians in the recent days, through physical maltreatments and unabated arrests. Leaders and political activists, in the first place LDK activists, and the democratic institutions of Kosova, have especially been target of this Serbian repression.
Brutal interventions of the Serbian police in Mitrovica, Prizren and Gllogove against citizens and political party activists, as well as today's actions of the Serbian police in the Kosova capital of Prishtina, prove to the fact that the Serbian authorities aim at massive provocations against the Kosova people.
Serbian authorities, through this large-scale repression, are intent to destroy democratic institutions in Kosova and crack the peaceful political movement the Albanians have been pursuing.
Therefore, we urge the international community undertake concrete steps and increase its presence in Kosova, in order to prevent a conflict in Kosova, which the Serbian regime wants, says the LDK Presidency statement.
