Dear Ms. Bonino,

Thank you for your recent fax and telephone call regarding the ad hoc tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and the issue of the establishment of a permanent international criminal court. I appreciate hearing from you.

I certainly support the efforts now under way to bring those responsible for war crimes and other atrocities in the former Yugoslavia to justice. As you know, it is also my strong hope that these efforts will lead to the establishment of a permanent international criminal court. In fact, this past January, I introduced in the United States Senate a joint resolution calling on the United States to support efforts of the United Nations to establish such a court. This measure has made steady progress through the legislative process and I look forward to its eventual enactment into law.

I greatly appreciate knowing of your initiative on these very important issues and I wish you the best of luck in your efforts
