UN INTERNATIONAL TRIBUNAL

UNIAR - 16.11.1993 01-31-2

KIEV, 16 November. A press-conference of the Transnational Radical Party was held in Kiev to highlight the opening ceremony of the International Tribunal on 17 November in the Hague (Netherlands). The Tribunal will appropriately qualify the crimes that are committed in Bosnia (the former Yugoslavia). The Radicals collected 25,000 signatures to support the petition of the Radical Party to provide the Tribunal with respective financial resources and political instruments necessary for its functioning. The Tribunal's Statute approved by the UN Security Council contains the key points supported by the Radicals. First, the Statute does not provide for a death penalty; second, the trial of the criminals cannot be held in absentia.

Markian Chuchuk, an MP of the Ukrainian Parliament, underlined significance of Ukraine's participation in the establishment of the International Tribunal which is to become a powerful mechanism in checking an aggression in any region of the world. The MP also stated that Ukraine whose desire is to be integrated in the world community is to pursue the policy of democracy.
