The 4th Conference of the Bulgarian Green party took place in Sofia on April 23-24, 1994.
The sole non-Bulgarian guest attending the Conference was the Radical party's coordinator for Bulgaria; hereby follows his speech addressing the audience:
Ladies and gentlemen, dear friends from the Green party,
first of all I would like to address my most warm thanks to the organizers of this Conference for their kindly and very pleasant invitation, which invitation I received through Mrs Venelina Berbenkova.
As Radical party's coordinator for Bulgaria, I am honoured to begin to speak in this Conference in front of people seriously involved into struggling and taking part on the side of environment.
The Radical party is a transnational and transdivisional cross-party. which probably you already know because of its intense non-violent action in favour of the establishment of an International Court on war crimes in former Yugoslavia as well as in the rest of the world, that in the frame of its campaign for a new international Right and the democratic reform of international institutions such as the United Nations and the European Union.
Besides that, it's a party which, in its whole history, always paid special attention to ecologic issues. It's the party which won the referendum for the abolition of nuclear power plants in Italy.
It's the same party which strictly worked together with the Friends Of The Earth against the destruction of the Amazon forests and for the safeguard of the ozone lane.
It's the party which promoted and supported the birth of the Green movement in Italy, as well as its political assertion.
And it was just because it could be impossible to seriously face those issues at the level of national states, that we decided to become an international political subject, the first real transnational party which overpass the national borders as well as the ideological barriers, in order to pragmatically lead some few but important concrete initiatives, like for instance the abolition of the death penalty as a barbarous and useless murder by the law, or the regulation of drugs as a tool to fight the huge financial power of narcomafias.
Now, after few years our ambitious transnational plan is going to be successful in Bulgaria, among many other countries: Bulgarian members of the Radical party are citizens and MPs belonging to all the parliamentary groups.
Hoping to strenghten the mutual cooperation with your prominent political party, I would like to address you my best wishes for your works in this Conference.
Thank you for your attention.
