Members of Radical party replied the death penalty to Yury Belichenko with a picket at the Armenian embassy in Moscow. The report by Armianski lane by Radik Batyrshin.
"To to seven radicals at the picket, there fell exactly one militia man, who looked with satisfaction at calm and intelligent appearance of manifestoing, got in the car and left. Under the slogan "No -- to death penalty, yes -- to international tribunal on war crimes" there stood the member of the General Council of Radical party Nikolai Khramov:
-- that man is condemned now, and, as they inform, the penalty is a final one, no appeals... We use that case as a symbolic one, as a case, that illustrates the sense of our campaign for abolition of death penalty and for foundation of the tribunal.
Radicals submitted an appeal to the President of Armenia in which they demanded (quoting) "to influence the Armenian community of Nagorno Karabakh in order to obtain the abolition of death penalty." It is amazing, that permanent representative of Armenia in Moscow Felix Mamikonian has agreed to receive radicals in presence of journalists. During that, he stated, that the President of Armenia can not juridically abolish the sentence of unauthorized Nagorno Karabakh Republic. There can be a pardon given to the condemned, but that is the competence of the presidium of the Supreme Council of Nagorno Karabakh Republic, not of the head of executorial power of Armenia. According to Felix Mamikonian, the demand is equivalent to if radicals would ask the President of Armenia to be responsible of the American Armenian doctor, who euthanasia, that is, mortification of patients by their request. The Armenian diplomatist suggested radicals to write a letter to the Chairman of the Supreme Council of Nagorno Karabakh Repub
lic Robert Kocharian with an appeal to pardon Yuri Belichenko. He also informed, that Kiev has officially refused the defense of Belichenko, despite of he was drafted to army from the territory of Ukraine. According to the permanent representative of Armenia in Moscow, aggregation of abolition of death penalty to the mercenary, who bombarded civil targets, with foundation of international tribunal on war crimes may evoke negative reaction of official Armenia, because there are five Armenians in Baku prison, who are sentenced to death.
-- I can call five particular names of people, who are sentenced to death penalty and waiting for it today in Azerbaijan. So, appeal to them and to us simultaneously, ... I'll reply, that you action has achieved its aim. ... Now, towards Azerbaijanian... If the action was in such a context, I would have realized that. But in such a way there appears a political action, that is aimed against Nagorno Karabakh.
But radicals did not agree to write a letter to the real power in Nagorno Karabakh, because that, according to them, would have been authorization of Nagorno Karabakh, while that could really influence fate of Yuri Belichenko.
According to information sources, it became known, that Russian ambassador on special missions Vladimir Kazimirov is seriously dealing with fate of a mercenary sentenced to death penalty. The occasion was the letter of wife of Yuri Belichenko to Andrei Kozyrev. Kazimirov is already negotiating with Stepanakert and Baku, developing variants of exchange of five Armenians sentenced to death and Yuri Belichenko.
