The Radical party attempts to obtain abolition of the sentence."Vecherniy Kiev", June 9, 1994
At the end of May in Stepanakert the military pilot of Azerbaijanian Military Air Forces, the Ukrainian citizen captain Yuri Belichenko was sentenced to death. He was accused of war crimes, particularly, the bombardment of civil settlements in Mardakert region of Azerbaijan that entailed victims among civil people.
"Standing consistently for abolition of death penalty in the world before year 2000 and carrying out campaign under the slogan 'No peace without justice', that is aimed to foundation as soon as possible (in Autumn of current year) of the permanent International Tribunal on war crimes, we consider"-- the press release of the Radical party states, --"that crimes like those Yuri Belichenko is accused of must be under the jurisdiction of International criminal court with sovranational authority, not that of Armenia or Azerbaijan of any other country."
Proceeding from that point, members of Radical party have submitted an appeal letters to the President of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosian by means of the Armenian Embassy in Ukraine and to the President of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk with a demand:
-- to use all their influence and to obtain an abolition of death penalty of Yuri Belichenko;
-- to take all required measures in UN to obtain foundation of the permanent International Tribunal on war crimes during next session of General Assembly of UN of September-December of 1994.
THE EDITORIAL STUFF: We have addressed to the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) for additional information about Yuri Belichenko. The director of press service of SSU Anatoli Sakhno has found out in the appropriate department, that a military pilot Yuri Belichenko does not figure in lists of military men of Ukrainian Military Forces that are maintained since year 1990.
