In particular it undertakes formally to apply a unilateral moratorium on anti-personnel land mine sales abroad, thereby implementing as of now the UN Assembly Resolution on a moratorium for anti-personnel land mines exports which seriously endanger civilian populations.
The Government will, furthermore, promote appropriate initiatives in the relevant international fora to support de-mining operations in countries where civilian populations are at risk.
The Government is aware of the impact of such commitments on Italian companies or on companies established in Italy, namely on employment, as the motion itself points out.
The Government will therefore implement the social "buffer" measures envisaged by current legislation to assist those employed in this sector and will adopt all initiatives apt to reduce such negative repercussions.
The Government thanks this Assembly for its attention to such a topical issue and for the opportunity to make public the high profile commitments it intends to undertake, for the success of which Italy is appealing to the broadest possible cooperation of the Parliament and the international community.
