Dear friends,
I would like to contact you on behalf of the European Bureau for Conscientious Objection (EBCO). As an introduction you will find a brief leaflet about our organization and its aims enclosed.
The reason I am writing a letter to you is that I am interested in your work and the main problems you face while promoting the right to conscientious objection in your country. I also would like to hear about the latest news concerning the state of the introduction of alternative civilian service. I tried to gather some information here in Brussels but alas, they are far from beeing complete. Furthermore I am interested to what extend there is a national network of organizations dealing with conscientious objection and what international contacts you have.
At the moment our bureau mainly focuses on Greece and Turkey where there exists no civilian service and cobnscientious objectors are still imprisoned. But we would like to extend our work field to the east of Europe.
I hope we will soon work together and promote the right to conscientious objection until it is recognized in every country as the basic Human Right to say no to violence and war!
Looking forward to your answer.
Yours sincerely
Lars BECKER
