Sono arrivate questa mattina due lettere, a firma Paul Simon, senatore degli Stati Uniti, indirizzate a Emma Bonino e a Olivier Dupuis.
Ecco il testo, uguale per entrambi i destinatari:
"Thank you for contacting me about the situation relating to Rwanda.
As Chaiman of the Senate Subcommittee on African Affairs, I have monitored this situation closely since April 6, when the Hutu extremists in Rwanda began the massacre of their countrymen. I sponsored a resolution in the Senate condemning those responsible for these atrocities, and I also urged the U.S. government to press for quick deployment of a United Nations a resounding lack of international will to take action until hundreds of thousands of Rwandans had been killed.
I commend President Clinton's decision to send U.S. troops to the region when the refugee exodus to Zaire demanded the immediate deployment of humanitarian relief. This prompt action helped save numerous lives in the camps. All U.S. forces are now out of the region, with a successful humanitarian mission tucked firmly under their belts.
Thank you for contacting my office".
