RESPOND TO AD IN "KIEVSKIJE VEDOMOSTI"

Today we in Kiev office have received a letter of December 25, year 1994. The address of our correspondent was a code of reformatory camp of severe regime. Here are some parts of the letter, that seems to be written by an intellectual, though with some grammar mistakes:

"When I have learnt about your Transnational Radical party from the "Kievskije Vedomosti" newspaper, December 15 of this year, I was pleasantly surprised and disappointed a little bit, because I didn't know anything about such a vast rational and humane democratic mission. Yes, the Mission! Because even a fifth part of your activities "Vedomosti" describes contains so many progressive and humane ideas, that it is impossible ... to ignore your distinguished program of humanization of the whole world. ... The only hard struggle for abolition of death penalty is worthy of any sensible citizen of our planet to devote all his efforts to. ..."

And later, about necessity of abolition of death penalty:

"Above all, according to my personal experience of communication with persons, who have committed before crimes, that can be punished by the capital punishment, I can confidently declare, that few of them were scared by death penalty while preparing for their crimes, even those, who realized consciously the possibility of being shot, let alone those who imagines to be an elusive cowboy, some sort of a criminal superman, who can be very often met among our criminal bros. So, if the state is incapable to scare a delinquent enough to prevent his criminal actions, then the state just takes revenge on him. And now I can not argue against the idea, that a right society must not humble itself by an ordinary revenge, by the Old Testament principle "eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth", because in that case it will be like the criminal itself, and that is, unfortunately, taking place now..."
