(Moscow, January 25) - Radical Party activists laid today at 10.00 AM the wreath to the Eternal Fire on the grave of the Unknown Soldier near the Kremlin wall. The inscription on the wreath reads: "To the soldiers - victims of native militarism from Stalin to Grachev". Together with Radicals also representatives of Committee of Soldiers' Mothers have taken part in this anti-militarist action.
In the presence of many journalists and TV cameramen, police stopped procession of about ten persons in the gates of Aleksandrovskij Garden, intending to prevent the laying the wreath. The motivation was, that it is necessary to obtain the official permission from the Kremlin superintendent, as well as that "there is politics written on the wreath". However then policemen got through their walkie-talkie the order to allow the wreath.
Radicals distributed brochures "Radicals and Nonviolence" and leaflets, containing explanation of the sense of the action and appeal to refuse military draft as protest against war in Chechnya.
"It's possible and necessary to demand resign of defence minister Grachev, painting on TV about 18-years soldiers, dieing in Grozny "smiling, for Russia". It's possible and necessary to accuse in what's happening president Yeltsin. But we must not forget, that Chechnya will repeat again and again in other places and under other names, until the real master in our country will be militarism. It's necessary to realize, that struggle for democracy in Russia must be also and probably first of all struggle against militarism, penetrating all the structures of our society", - told Nikolaj Khramov, member of General Council. Several days ago he returned from Chechnya, where he was together with Antonio Stango, member of RP's Secretariat, in the delegation of the Transnational Radical Party.
