(Moscow, February 15) - Joint press conference of participants of the Agreement About Common Actions For Peace And Freedom, Against Bloodshed In Chechnya, took place today in the hadquarters of "Memorial" Society. Among participators of press conference were: Aleksandr Daniel (Memorial), Marina Salje (Free Democratic Party), Aleksandr Buzgalin (Union of Internationalists), Viktor Kogan-Jasnyj ("Right for Life" Society), as well as representatives of "Democratic Russia" and other organizations. Radical Party was represented by Nikolaj Khramov, member of General Council.
Journalists - including news program "Vesti" of Russian TV and Interfax news agency - were informed about common actions, scheduled in the framework of actions week against war in Chechnya from 19 to 26 of February.
Nikolaj Khramov said in his intervention: "Now it's finally clear for everybody: struggle for democracy, for peace and freedom in our country is inseparable from struggle against militarism - Soviet or Russian. That's exactly why we have started our campaign for soonest adoption of a good conscientious objection bill, a bill which will recognize right to refuse military service as a universal civil right. Attaining this bill, we get a weapon of huge force - force of non-violence and Law. By means of this weapon, by means of civil disobedience, conscientious objection based on Law, we get a good chance to overcome and break a goliath machine of militarist suppression."
