died a few days ago. Nobody knows when, since he disappeared last week during a climbing trip in Tatra Mountains, Slovakia. His body was found yesterday. The body of his daughter, 19, who was with him in the trip, has not been found yet.
His friends lost any connection to them since the beginning of last week.
Josef was an old and close friend of the Radical Party. He has been signing every Appeals promoted by us during the last years; he was ready to take part to the 37th Congress of the Radical Party, scheduled to be held in Rome from October 7th to 9th, and he would have joined the RP in the next days, as he told me last time I spoke to him by phone.
He used to be Minister of Environment in the Federal Government of Czechoslovakia, the federal state then splitted into the two fully independent Czech and Slovak Republics of today.
Very recently he was elected in the Presidium of Free Democrats.
With Eva, his wife, and with Olga Cechurova and Jan Jarab we got several chance to spend together nice dinner-times, while chatting and talking.
He was very popular in his countries, before and after Czechoslovakia's splitting, and he was one of those who better and in a deep way understood us, us Radicals.
I still have a book I borrowed by him, which I've not had chanche to give him back in time.
