MARCIA DELLE PALME

To HANDS OFF CAIN and NO PEACE WITHOUT JUSTICE

The International Fellowship of Reconciliation (IFOR), founded in 1919, is a network of some 140,000 people in 40 countries. What unites us is a desire for peace and justice in this world, and the knowledge that such a world can only come about throgh nonviolence and the absolute respect for human dignity. IFOR members include Mairead Maguire of the Community of the Peace People in Norther Ireland. Our members also include many people who have been jailed because of their nonviolent witness against war and injustice; in the past, some members have been sentenced to death for their stands.

IFOR sends you warm wishes for the Palm Sunday March for the Global Moratorium on Executions and for the International Criminal Court. We

support you because of our belief that the death penalty is an assault on human dignity. The potential for abuses of the legal system, human rights and justice itself is great where ever the death penalty exists. It is enacted more frequently against minorities and marginalized people and used to silence political opponents. It represents an appropriation by humans of a decision that rightfully belongs only to God. Above all, it denies the possibility of reconciliation and forgiveness on the part of the victims, and change on the part of the victimizer. Our belief in the sanctity of life and the value of human dignity also leads us to protest against the crimes of genocide, aggression and crimes against humanity. War itself is a crime against humanity. We recognize the need for better implementation of laws against these crimes.

We wish all the marchers well and courage in their work against injustice and for a world of peace and justice.

Francoise Pottier

Associate General Secretary
