Dear friends,
together with the Drugs Peace Institue, the European Cannabis Consumers Organization and the International Antiprohibitionnist League, we plan to organize a demonstration on May 19, at 11 o'clock in front of dutch embassies and consulates in all the cities where we are present and where there are, obviously, dutch consulate or embassy.
This demonstration is important for different reasons. First of all because the policy on drugs of the netherlands autorities is an example of tolerance not only for Europe but the all world and because it's under hard pressure from most of the other governments of the European Union and the United States. But also because this demonstration could be a first step in our campaign for the denunciation of the United Nations Conventions on drugs that we have to strenghten as soon as possible in most parliaments we can. It's really not the case to remember here the reasons of the all antiprohibitionnist campaign. Netherteless, one element is particulary important: the growing power based on drugs trafficing of the mafias all over the world and, particulary, in the former communist countries (in the first place Russia).
For these reasons I hope we will be able to organize in at least 20 cities this demonstration, involving other organizations, especially those who are working about drugs and Aids. The text of the leaflet, "plateforme of the demonstration" is already in conference radical party in french, italian and spanish. The english, german, russian and other versions will be ready in a few days.
A second appointment of the campaign will probably take place in Paris on June, 18, during the international day for legalization of soft drugs. We are managing to have a space there in order to organize the nonviolent demonstrations we will have to organize in august in front of the parliament for the denunciation of the United Nations Conventions.
About the pratical aspects of the organization, I suggest to use the drugs conference of Agorà in order to let the other groups (European Cannabis Consumers Organization, Drugs Peace Institute, ...) participate directly to the debate and to the organization.
All comments, suggestions and news are not only welcomed but useful.
Good work to every body !
Olivier
