(Moscow, June 7, 1995) - The second working meeting of the organizing committee of the Movement for Military Reform has taken place today in Union of Journalists on Zubovskij boulevard. Following participants were presented: Aleksej SIMONOV, chairman of Glasnost Defence Foundation; Larisa VLADIMIROVA, adviser of Moscow government; Egor GAJDAR, head of "Russia's Choice" group in the State Duma; Nugzar BETANELI, director of the Institute for Social Science and Parliamentary Studies; Ernest AMETISTOV, member of the Constitutional Court; Nikolaj KHRAMOV, secretary of A.R.A.; Vladimir SMIRNOV, co-president of Militaries For Democracy; Ljudmila OBRAZCOVA, member of coordination council of Russian Committee of Soldiers' Mothers; Sergej SOROKIN, Movement Against Violence; Tair TAIROV, chairman of the Civic Peace Association; Igor SEREBRJAKOV, TV commentator on military issues; Aleksej VENEDIKTOV, political commentator of Radio M - Eho Moskvy; Maria SIMONOVA, press secretary of Glasnost Defence Foundation.

The main subjects of the discussion were the actions in the context of the recent amendments to the law on military service passed by the State Duma on May 4 this year, as well as petition campaign for conscientious objection right initiated by Radical Party and A.R.A.

Some actions in the nearest future were decided. In particular, a letter addressed to every member of the State Duma who voted for amendments or didn't vote at all, urging them to join the "Appeal of 54" Russian deputies to the Constitutional Court requesting to judge the violation of Duma's regulations during passing the amendments as an anti-constitutional act. As well as common activity on the Celebration of Moskovskij Komsomolets newspaper on June 25 in Gorky Park - such as petition tables, interventions, distributing leaflets, etc. The proposal expressed by Nikolaj Khramov in the context of possible positive verdict of Constitutional Court - to initiate another petition campaign, for reduction of military service terms down to 12 months - was considered by all the participants as the appropriate one.
