The Founding Congress of the Movement for Military Reform will begin its work in Moscow on September 24, at 10.00 AM, in the Parliamentarian Center (Cvetnoj Bld. 2).
Decision about creation of this organization was taken in May 1995 on public assembly in Moscow University. During the Congress the questions of alternative civilian service, of the military recruitment (first of all of the students), of the civilian control over military spheres, of the building of the modern armed forces and military budget will be examined.
There will be interventions of E. Vorobjev, former first deputy commander of the ground forces of Russian Federation; E. Gajdar, chairman of the "Russia's Choice" group in the State Duma; M. Kirbasova, chairwoman of the Russian Committee of Soldiers' Mothers; S. Rogov, director of he Institute of United States and Canada; V. Smirnov, chairman of the coordination council of the Militaries For Democracy; S. Jushenkov, chairman of the parliamentarian committee on defence; L. Vladimirova, chairwoman of the organizing committee of the Movement for Military Reform; N. Khramov, secretary of the Anti-militarist Radical Association (ARA); A. Simonov, chairman of the Glasnost Defence Foundation and others.
The representatives of different Russian regions as well as Russia's Democratic Choice party, Russian Peasants' Party, Militaries For Democracy, Russian Committee of Soldiers' Mothers, Anti-militarist Radical Association, Civic Peace Association, Glasnost Defence Foundation, Women For Solidarity, Union of Cinematographers and Union of Designers will take part in the Congress.
Everybody is invited to participate in the Congress too.
