The 2nd October 1995, birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, will be observed in many parts of the world as the DAY OF NON-VIOLENCE. Gandhiji's life has influenced many great persons, such as, Martin Luther King, Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan and Nelson Mandela. Today, the Dalai Lama of Tibet, Nobel Peace Laureate, is upholding the legacy of Gandhiji by his total commitment to non-violence in his people's struggle to regain their liberty.

1995 is a significant year. It is Mahatma Gandhi's 125th birth anniversary and the Dalai Lama's 60th birthday. The Dalai Lama considers himself one of Gandhiji's successors.

As a part of tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and his successors, a prayer meeting will be held in front of Mahatma Gandhi's statue at Indira Gandhi square in Moscow on 2nd October 1995 at 2:00 PM. It will be followed by meditation for world peace. People belonging to various aspects of life and nationalities will pay homage by offering flowers and Khartak (traditional Tibetan scarves) to Mahatma Gandhi's statue in Moscow.
