As "Vedomosti" newspaper foresaw, 41 years old president of Ukrain's'ka pravnycha fundatsia (parliament faction -- rem. of transl.-or) Sergey Golovaty was appointed to the post of Minister of justice by the President's decree.

Sergey Golovaty is Ukrainian people's deputy from one of Kiev election regions (elected during 1st round, defeated 14 rivals), the head of parliament subcommittee for European relations and of parliament committee for affairs and relations with CIS. Several years he was a teacher; he is an author of five monographs and numerous scientific articles. The "godfather" of draft Constitutional treaty took an active part in the process of its elaboration till the moment it was finally signed. He plays one of the leading roles in the process of Constitution elaboration.

We hope, with coming of a new leader in Ministry of justice, there will be few claims to this state body.

We are collaborating with Sergey Petrovich Golovaty since 1992, when for the first time he joined Radical party and took an active part in the XXXVI Congress. He is a well-known lawyer of Ukraine, who has always supported our initiatives.

Sergey Petrovich Golovaty is a convinced enemy of death penalty, that's why, we think, exactly this question is worth turning attention in our joint work. Now he takes an active part in elaboration of more progressive and democratic Constitution of Ukraine.

We hope, that our friends in European parliament also know him well, because he pays much attention to work on Ukraine joining European Union. As it is known, recently Parliament's Assembly has recommended to accept Ukraine in European Council, but among 12 terms of that there was abolition of death penalty in Ukraine. As we think, exactly this fact can be used in our further collaboration with Mr. Golovaty.
