INTERNATIONAL CAMPAIGN OF THE RADICAL PARTY FOR THE RELEASE OF THE CUBAN POLITICAL PRISONER FRANCISCO CHAVIANO GONZALEZ.

ESTABLISHED AN INTERNATIONAL BODY OF DEFENSE ATTORNEYS.

Bruxelles-New York, October 20, 1995. Francisco CHAVIANO, President of the Counsel for Civil Rights in Cuba, Anna CHAVIANO, political prisoner since April 1994 in the prison of Combinado del Este, in Havana, had to interrupt his hunger strike began 22 days ago, due to the deterioration of his health condition caused by ill-treatments during his detention. Thanks to that, the prison authorities interrupted the regime of isolation to which he had been forced and allowed him to meet with his wife Ana. This has developed only two days after the adoption of the resolution on the case by the European Parliament.

With the approval of Francisco CHAVIANO and his wife who has recently met in Havana with a Radical delegation, composed of Sandro OTTONI, Begonia RODRIGUEZ and Tanja RIZMAN in Cuba, an international defense team was formed which will review the case according to Cuban laws and to principles of international rights ratified also by Cuba.
