MOSCOW (Reuter) - Five members of a single family have been

sentenced to death in the Central Asian republic of Uzbekistan

for murder, robbery and theft, the Russian news agency Interfax

said Tuesday.

Interfax said the family of Sharafutdin Zakirov, 55, had

committed a total of 25 crimes in Uzbekistan and the neigbouring

ex-Soviet republic of Tajikistan.

Zakirov, his two sons and two grandsons were given the death

sentence. His daughter and daughter-in-law were sentenced to 14

years in jail each.

The agency did not say when the court passed its sentence or

how long the criminal group had been operating.
