Statement by Mr. Per Saland, Deputy Assistant Under-Secretary Ministry for Foreign Affairs
...Sweden, of course, fully associates itself with the statement made yesterday under this agenda item by the Spanish Presidency on behalf of the European Union. I merely would like to underscore a few points and make some additional comments.
My delegation is among those who wish to make the fullest possible use of the positive momentum created through the very constructive work performed by the Ad Hoc Committee. It should now, in our view, be beneficial to move on to a stage, where the process of identifying and clarifying the various issues that need to be addressed be combined with the drafting of a consolidated text of a convention for an International Criminal Court
To this end, a preparatory committee should be set up and a decision of principle be taken, already now, to hold, at the right moment, a conference of plenipotentiaries to consider this text.
