...Our Government highly evaluates the results of the two sessions of the Special Committee. They will undoubtedly assist the General Assembly in making a decision of a question of convening a diplomatic conference to adopt the ICC statute. Our delegation hopes that this decision will be positive. Thus we would be able to make a major contribution to the 50th anniversary of the United Nations. We also salute the invitation of the government of Italy to hold this conference in Rome.

Belarus firmly supports the establishment of an effective international organ to administer criminal proceedings which would make it easier to achieve substantial progress in creating a system of international criminal justice. The position has consistently been advanced in the written comments of Belarus published in documents A/CN.4/448, A/CN.4/452 Add.1 and A/CN.4/458.
