ANTIMILITARIST RADICAL ASSOCIATION

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Moscow, December, 6, 1995, 13:00

Today the Radical Party (RP) and the Antimilitarist Radical Association with participation of the Antifascist Youth Action (AYA) and of the Committee of the Mothers of Soldiers of Russia (CMSR) post piquets at the State Duma.

About 50 demonstrators with posters "Enough of waiting: alternative civil service now!", "Alternative civil service law: adopted unanimously", "Alternative civil service: a law, a good law, a law as soon as possible", "Deputies, vote for Borscev's amendments", "Service for peace, slaves for generals' cottages", "Strojbat is not an alternative", "Democracy without conscious objectors is not a democracy", "In the European Counsel without an alternative civil service law???", "4 000 000 of soldiers - isn't that too much?", "As You sow today, You shall mow December, 17", "Candidates, remember, we are more numerous that the generals" during one hour, from 9 to 10 a.m., met the deputies at the central entrance to the Russian Parliament in Okhotnyj Ryad street, distributing leaflets among deputies, Duma employees, passers-by and journalists.

Viktor Sheinis, Duma deputy ( "Jabloko") and Vitaly Savitsky ("Vybor Rossii"), one of the authors of the bill of the federal "Alternative civil service law" met the demonstrators. The bill in second reading is in the order of the day. The debates will begin at 16:45.

The transnational Radical Party is a non-government organization (NGO), registered at the United Nations Economic and Social Counsel (ECOSOC) with first-category consultative status. Its main headquarter is situated in Rome(Italy), there are also regional headquarters in Brussels, New York, Moscow, Zagreb, Budapest, Kiev, Madrid in some other cities.

The Antimilitarist Radical Association is a branch organization of the Radical Party, founded in Moscow in may, 1995, by the RP members, who participated in the Antimilitarist campaign in Russia, first of all in the initiatives aimed at adoption as soon as possible af a new nondiscriminatory alternative civil service law.
