51 DAYS UNTIL THE BRUSSELS DEMONSTRATION

In this issue we are publishing the first details (itinerary and slogans, obviously not yet definitive, suggested by the adhering organizations) for the March 10th demonstration, as well as the news we receive on a daily basis from the national Coordinations.

It is very important for us to know how the organization of the demonstration is developing, so that beginning from the next issues we will get a clearer idea about the participation, thus helping the European Coordination in all those preparations for a success of the demonstration.

Thanks to the efforts of many friends, this issue of "Freedom for Tibet" is circulated in English, French, Spanish, Italian, Hungarian and Croatian.

MARCH 10th DEMONSTRATION: ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING IN MILAN

A meeting of the Italian Coordination for the March 10th initiatives was held in Milan on January 15th. The representatives of the three entities promoting the campaign, together with other activists particularly committed to the initiative participated.

The Coordination established some objectives: 1) to organize the participation of at least 1,500 people from Italy in the Brussels demonstration; and 2) to call on Italian associations, trade unions, political parties (at both their national and local levels) to: a) take the organization of their members and sympathizers' trip to Brussels upon themselves; b) promote the adherences of local administrations within various cities, provinces and regions, to the "A Flag for Tibet" initiative; and c) disseminate to each private citizen the proposal to fly the Tibetan flag from his/her own window on March 10th.

FRANCE GETS INVOLVED !

The French Association of Mayors has been contacted and it is likely that they will distribute the Appeal to the Mayors among at least some of the French provinces.

The French Coordination for the March 10th demonstration will meet in Paris on January 17th with the participation of Kunsang, the new President of the Tibetan committee.

MARCH 10th DEMONSTRATION: ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING IN BUDAPEST

A meeting of the Hungarian Coordination for the March 10th demonstration took place in Budapest. The Coordination decided to gather together as soon as possible in Budapest all the members of the adhering organizations, and to call on the political parties represented in the Hungarian National Assembly to join the demonstration's platform. The organizers' goal for the Hungarian participation in the Brussels demonstration was set at 50 people minimum.

WEJ FOR NOBEL PEACE PRIZE 1996

Within the next few days, all declarations supporting the Chinese dissident Wej Jingsheng's nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize 1996, must be submitted to Stockholm for official acceptance.

Recently, other signatures from the Hungarian and the Polish parliaments have been received by the Radical Party, the total number of MP and university professor adherences reaching 121.

PARLIAMENTARY ACTIVITY IN ALBANIA

The Democratic Party MP Rudolf Marku collected 13 signatures from his colleagues for a draft parliamentary motion regarding freedom in Tibet to be discussed in the Albanian Parliament, this initiative coming at the same time President Berisha of Albania has planned an official visit to China to finalize important bilateral economic agreements.

MEETING AT THE CHINESE EMBASSY IN BUCHAREST

Rumanian Coordination members Monica Ivan and Mihai Romanciuc met in Bucharest the 2nd Secretary of the Chinese Embassy, Yan Jianwu, by invitation of the latter. Questioned about the abduction of the Panchen Lama, as recognized by the Dalai Lama, Jianwu declared that "I don't believe the child has been abducted, but even so, no harm would come to him and you can imagine why".

MANIFESTO FOR MARCH 10th
