A PROCLAMATION

GOVERNOR WILLIAM F. WELD

WHEREAS: On March 10, 1996, Tibetans across the Commonwealth and around the world will gather to commemorate the 37th anniversary of Tibetan freedom; and
WHEREAS: This day pays tribute to the more than one million Tibetans who lost their lives in the struggle for freedom, liberty, and justice; and
WHEREAS: People everywhere recognize the importance of Tibet's cultural and artistic legacy; and
WHEREAS: It is fitting that all Massachusetts citizens join Tibetans in recognizing this historic occasion;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, WILLIAM F. WELD, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, do hereby proclaim March 10th, 1996, as
TIBET DAY
and urge all the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.
Given at the Executive Chamber in Boston, this sixth day of December, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and ninety-five, and of the Independence of the United States of America, the two hundred and twentieth.
