38 DAYS TO THE BRUSSELS DEMONSTRATION

The 202 adhesions of parliamentarians and of personalities on the appeal to the Secretary General of the United Nations so that he may receive the Dalai Lama, the 91 mayors from the 17 countries that will fly the Tibetan flag, the first adhesions of parties and associations to the Platform of the Demonstration, give us the certainty that the difficult common journey undertaken - decided by the conclusion of the works of the Strawboard Seminar - is becoming reality in important political results.

Now we must turn them into the physical, concrete presences of thousands of people to the European demonstration of March 10 for the freedom of Tibet in BRUSSELS. The demonstration could be the passport to access international institutions, parliaments and European governments in order to finally open the necessary political dialogue on the freedom for Tibet.

There is a little more than a month to the demonstration of Brussels and, as you will read in this number of "Freedom for Tibet", other groups, in addition to those already indicated, are organizing themselves from various European cities in order to arrive in Brussels, in spite of the numerous difficulties that the distance to the Belgian capital involves.

Beginning with this number of "Freedom for Tibet" we are opening a space dedicated to "Dates for the week". A small corner to let all the readers know about the initiatives, the debates, the press conferences that are scheduled in Europe for the coming week. Obviously we would like to ask you to inform the Editor's office about your meeting dates for the freedom for Tibet. On the second page - dedicated, as usual, to all the aspects of the March 10 day - we are publishing the Map of Brussels with the route and the stops of the demonstration.

All that is left is to wish ourselves good luck!

MARCH 10: A FLAG AT THE WINDOW

As previously announced in the preceding numbers of "Freedom for Tibet" it is possible to buy the Tibetan flag and display it at one's own window on the coming March 10, participating that way, even in this form, with a small but concrete act of solidarity with the struggle of the people of Tibet, to the initiatives for the freedom for Tibet.

From Italy, the members of the Apollo Pietrosanti and Marina Sisani Committee, have informed us that, to date, the Italian citizens who will display the flag on their balconies are about 2,000.

Also from Belgium, Germany, Hungary, Russia, Austria we are receiving orders for a few hundreds flags which we are being sent out to the consignees.

We would like to remind you that in order to have a flag delivered, you simply contact the Editor's office of "Freedom for Tibet" or the nearest TRP branch office.

ADHESIONS TO THE PLATFORM OF THE DEMONSTRATION

From the Russian Federation have joined the Platform the "Civic Peace" Association and the Antifascist Youth Association (AYA), both from Moscow.

From Ukraine have declared their full support the Liberal Party, the "Dalekyi Skhid" Association (Far East), The Christian-Democratic Youth and the Beer Admirers Party (of liberal orientation). From Vojvodina, in addition, we have the adhesion of the VMDK (Democratic League of the Hungarians of Vojvodina).

USA: The State of Massachusetts declares March 10, 1996, "TIBET DAY."

Marino Busdachin informed us that the Governor of Massachusetts, William F. WELD, has officially declared March 10, 1996, as "Tibet Day." In his proclamation delivered on the sixth of December, 1995, the Governor states that March 10 commemoration will "pay tribute to the more than one million Tibetans who lost their lives in the struggle for freedom, liberty, and justice". Governor Weld also stressed the importance of recognizing Tibet's cultural and artistic legacy and urged the citizens of Massachusetts to unite and join the people of Tibet in a fitting observance of this historic occasion. Governor Weld's proclamation is a direct response to the Radical Party's initiative among all fifty American states to adhere to the "Freedom for Tibet" campaign and proclaim March 10, "Tibet Day." Initial procedures for the Proclamation have begun as well in the states of Idaho, Louisiana, Montana, New Jersey, North Dakota and Vermont.
