Slovak Prime Minister Vladimir Meciar says he considers
requests for autonomy by ethnic Hungarians living in his
country to be an example of dangerous extremism. Speaking
during his weekly radio broadcast Meciar warned Hungarian
politicians that he will never hold negotiations on autonomy
because he says his country has had bad experiences with such
experiments.
A Slovak government spokeswoman, meanwhile, said the
much-awaited Hungarian-Slovak treaty definitely will not be
ratified this week.
