In support of the action requested by Mr. Guy Lieberman, Executive Director of Dewachen TCC that TSGs and Tibet supporters fax President Nelson Mandela's office, TRC has sent the following Action Alert to our membership. (Feel free to use it if you find it useful).

Guy advises that Tashi Phuntsok la, HH's Africa and Middle East representative can be reached through his office at from the 13th of August.

Dear TRC Members and Friends:

His Holiness the Dalai Lama will be visiting South Africa from August 19 to 24, 1996. During this visit, the International Tibet Support Group network is working to urge President Nelson Mandela to meet with the Dalai Lama to not only discuss the issue of Tibet, but to encourage President Mandela to take an active role in the cause for Tibet.

Please send a fax to President Mandela between August 15 and 18 requesting that:

1. President Mandela meet with the Dalai Lama

2. President Mandela make a statement of concern about the situation in Tibet

3. President Mandela call for negotiations between the Dalai Lama and the Chinese government
