DON'T KILL DOUGLAS WRIGHT
Since the original layout of this registration brochure, a death warrant for Douglas F. Wright was signed in Wasco County Circuit Court by visiting Judge Donald W. Hull, who set the date for Friday, September 6th.
Douglas Wright may become the first person to be executed in Oregon in 34 years and the first person executed by lethal injection.
Douglas Wright was convicted of killing three Portland men - Anthony Arthur Baker, 27; William Clement Marks, 23; and William Ray Davis, 37 - on the Warm Springs Indian Reservation in 1991. Wright's conviction and sentence were affirmed May 3, 1996 by the Oregon State Supreme Court. He can appeal, but said Thursday, June 6th he would not. Douglas Wright has the right to pick up his appeals up until the scheduled execution. The Governor of Oregon, John Kitzhaber, has the authority to stay any execution, at any point in time. Governor John Kitzhaber is personally and philosophically opposed to the death penalty, however, his spokespeople have stated that because he took and oath of office to uphold and defend the constitution of the state, he "will not step in to stop the implementation of the death penalty." The March Against the Myth Planning Team will monitor the situation closely and modify the march itinerary as necessary. In the meantime, the OCADP would like to support in pressuring Gov.
