SEPT. 29TH - OCT. 2ND: FASTING DIALOGUE FOR THE FREEDOM OF THE PANCHEN LAMA AND WEI JINGSHENG. MORE THAN ONE THOUSAND PERSONS FAST.
New York, Bruxelles, Sept. 30th, 1996. At only few hours from the start of this non-violent action there are more than 1,000 participants, from 28 nations, who have decided to fast for one, two, or three days. The initiative is intended to create a dialogue with the Foreign Ministers of 28 nations to convince China to release the Panchen Lama and dissident Wei Jingsheng, the candidate for the 1997 Nobel Peace prize.
The action, which was sponsored by the Transnational Radical party with the support of dozens of Tibet support groups and other political, cultural, and religious organizations, had many Parliamentarians as participants.
October 2nd, the anniversary of Gandhi's birth, will be the date of numerous demonstrations by the fasters in Rome, New Delhi, Brussels, Paris, Moscow, New York, Prague, Marseille, Seattle, Sophia, Florence, Milan, and other cities.
