Today, October the 2nd, at 2 p.m., there was held the manifestation in front of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Prague, as a part of the worldwide fasting dialog. All the 11 people who joined the fast participated in this manifestation.
The delegation - John Bok (civic activist), Olga Cechurova (TRP) and Karel Srp (Arforum) - was received by the representatives of the ministry, Mr. SLANSKY, the Chairman of the Asia Department, and Mr. POJAR, Head of 4th Territorial Department.
They, being officially charged by the Foreign Minister (who is currently in New York), intepreted during the meeting the answer to the requests of the fasting dialog: They repeated once more the "complexity" of this issue, stressed however that the Czech Republic does not neglect the human rights violations in China and Tibet, and that even the Ministry of Foreign Affairs itself have made several steps in favour of Chinese political prisoners, including Wei Jingsheng. They claimed also that the Czech Republic supports the negotiations between Chinese authorities and Tibetan leadership. But they refused to indicate the concrete way or character of these steps and support. The Foreign Ministry finds the concrete requests of the fasting dialog to be unuseful, assures however to act (in the way it considers to be more useful) in favour of Wei Jingsheng and Gedhun Choekyi Nyima.
Mr. Pojar and Olga Cechurova informed then the present media about the results of this meeting. From the number of invited media came only CTI (one of the two press agencies), Prace (independent daily) and Radio Regina (state radio). From foreign media (not invited, but expected) there was the correspondent of New China Agency.
Radio Regina broadcasted then in its main news programme (at 6 p.m.) the interview with Olga Cechurova, speaking about all the initiatives of the TRP concerning China and Tibet.
