Statement by H.E. Mr. Jack Wilmot Ambassador of Ghana

Mr. Chairman,

[...] In this connection, we believe that the recommendation by the Committee to the General Assembly that the Preparatory Committee complete its work by April 1998 is a step in the right direction. We believe also that convening a Diplomatic Conference in 1998 is an attainable goal. Progress can be made on outstanding issues between now and April 1998. Additionally, it is our view that committing ourselves to a firm date in 1998 would not only serve to maintain the current momentum for the establishment of the court, but would also negate any notion of uncertainty and indecision about the eventual establishment.
