Mr. Chairman,
[...] The past two session of the Prepcom have made it very clear that there is a widespread support for an early establishment of the court
and that this task is achievable, and, in fact, within our grasp. The
two PrepCom sessions have also made important accomplishment in particular in identifying the core issue on which further reflection
and work would be required. In this context, my delegation believes
that the General Assembly should renew the mandate of the PrepCom with
a clear guidance to complete its work in 1998, to be followed, in the same year, by a diplomatic conference of plenipotentiaries for the adoption of a convention on the establishment of an international criminal court, as recommendation in paragraphs 368 and 370 of the report of the Preparatory Committee.
