Statement by Mirjam Skrk representative of Slovenia

Mr. Chairman,

[...] Since 1992, my delegation had throughout supported the efforts of the ILC to prepare a draft statute of a permanent criminal court. Likewise at the 49th session of the General Assembly we noted with great satisfaction that the draft statute of such a court was completed by the ILC and submitted to the Sixth Committee. We believe that this draft still presents a firm basis for the finalization of a consolidated text that would be apt for the universal acceptance.

My delegation believes that the Preparatory Committee is able to complete its work by April 1998. Likewise, we favour a convening of the conference of plenipotentiaries in June 1998. At the same time, we express our gratitude to the government of Italy for their generous offer to host the conference.
