SINO-TIBETAN NEGOTIATIONS/EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT
The renunciatory line presented by Colajanni (PSE-PDS) and Colon Y Naval, the deputies who are philo-Chinese Communist regimists, was rejected. With the initiative of the Radical Alliance, PPE, Liberals, and Greens, the reality of historical truth and the proposals of the Dalai lama have been reaffirmed. The European Parliament defeated the resolution presented by the Socialists Colajanni and Colon Y Naval who, in accordance with many other obstructionist attempts in ferocious opposition to the initiatives in favor of the tragic question of Tibet, tried to pass a resolution in which the legitimate aspirations of the Tibetan people were reduced to a mere request for cultural and religious autonomy. In the adopted resolution the position of the Tibetan Government in exile, stated clearly by the Dalai Lama during a recent speech to the European Parliament, was reaffirmed. It calls for the opening of Sino-Tibetan negotiations without any pre-conditions and the granting of full autonomy to Tibet on every issue ex

cept for matters of National Defense and Foreign Affairs. In the resolution, which was adopted on March 12th by the European Parliament, a request for an order of the day of the United Nations on the question of the decolonization of Tibet was requested.

* In light of this important episode, TRP Secretary Olivier Dupuis and Deputy Reformer of the European Parliament, declared:

"This attempt, which fortunately failed, is nonetheless indicative of how certain political forces lose their wool but not their habits. After years of opposition to any type of political or Parliamentary initiative in the European Parliament (I only have to remind you of last autumn's vote against the radical amendments in favor of the Tibetan refugees in exile and in favor of open information for the Tibetan people) or in Italy (I remind you of the circulation of a list of reasons why mayors should not participate in the raising of the Tibetan flag or the Italian government's contrary de facto position on the presentation of a resolution on the question of human rights violations in China and Tibet) the deputies who, with their long history of support for totalitarian Soviet Communist regime and present themselves today as the interpreters of the "good will" of the Chinese Communist regime, which has been verified by its ferocious repression in Tibet, Western Turkistan, Inner Mongolia, and throughout Chin

a. We only have to remember that between 600,000 to 800,000 prisoners are detained in atrocious conditions in the infamous laogai for openly political reasons."
