EXPLOSION THREATS TO THE CHINESE GOVERNMENT IN URUMCHI
[ETIC, 5/12/97] Leaflets were posted on the streets of the Urumchi
city of Eastern Turkistan by unidentified people saying "Before July 1,
when Hong Kong is handed over to China, the Chinese must leave Eastern
Turkistan. Otherwise, the dust of Urumchi will be raised to the sky."
The same kind of letters were sent to the government offices. Some
residents of Urumchi want to leave the city to escape from possible
disturbances and bomb explosions. [Abdullah Pamir]
