Wang Miaogen, 43, chair of the Shanghai Workers Autonomous Federation during the 1989 democracy movement, was sent on 27 April 1993 to a psychiatric hospital run by the police in Shanghai, to ensure that he would not disrupt the city's East Asian Games.
