SIX TIBETANS IN HUNGER STRIKE UNTO DEATH IN NEW DELHI APPEAL TO THE UNITED NATIONS TO DEMAND THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE REPORT OF THE INTERNATIONAL COMMISSION OF JURISTS ON TIBET
Letter to the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan
Dear Sir,
with great respect we hereby voluntarily without any pressure or enticement from any corner and in full of our senses offer ourselves for indefinite hunger strike for pressing the following demands of Tibetan people and request the UN to fulfill the following demands as per the ICJ Report on Tibet. They are:
TO UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY:
- Resume its debate on the question of Tibet based on its Resolutions of 1959, 1961 and 1965.
TO THE UN COMMISSION ON HUMAN RIGHTS:
- Appoint a Special Rapporteur to investigate the situation of human rights in occupied Tibet.
TO UN SECRETARY GENERAL:
- using his good office, appoint a special envoy to promote a peaceful settlement on the question of Tibet and a United Nations supervised referendum to ascertain the wishes of the Tibetan people.
We, the undersigned six Tibetans, hereby earnestly request the UN to leave up to its commitments, principles and duties, of looking after the issue of Tibet as it has done on numerous occasions in other parts of the world. We hope that the United Nations will support the suffering people of Tibet to free again by promoting a peaceful settlement of the question of Tibet to the satisfaction and the wishes of the people of Tibet.
