Tibet/Brief History of the Six Hunger Strikers

1. Mr.DAWA GYALPO was born in Tibet and served Tibetan community for few in years in Dharamsala and in Nepal. He also worked as a tour guide in Nepal from 1975 to 1985 and visited Tibet once in June 1985. He is also an active member since in 1970 and at present is a General Secretary of Regional Tibetan Youth Congress, Salugara, W.Bengal. In 1995, he participated in the first Peace March Movement of Tibetans.

2. Mr.YUNGDRUNG TSERING was born in 1970 at Dehra Dun, Northern India. He attended Tibetan Children's Village School (TCV) at Dharamsala and then joined TCV Handicraft Centre in 1986 and studied Thanka Painting for six years. He then served TCV Handicraft Centre as a Thanka painter for more than six years and now does his own paining work. He also participated in the first Peace March Movement of Tibetans in 1995.

3. Mr. KARMA SICHOE was born in October 15, 1973 at Dharamsala and attended Tibetan Children's Village School (TCV) at Dharamsala and later joined the Tibetan Art & Metal Craft Centre in 1991 and got fully trained in thanka painting in 1993. He then established the Yatri Traditional Training Centre in Nepal for learning Thanka painting. In 1995, he participated in a demonstration in front of Chinese Embassy and was detained for three days. He is member of TYC.

4. Mrs. PALZOM was born in Tibet in 1930. She had undergone sufferings under Chinese rule in Tibet. Many of her relatives died in Tibet as a direct result of Chinese occupation. In 1989, she fled to India through Nepal. She participated in both the Tibetan Peace Movements in 1995 and 1996-1997.

5. Mr. KUNSANG was born in Tibet in 1928 and fled in 1958. He spent 8 years in Sikkim as laborer. He is a member of Regional Tibetan Youth Congress, Puruwala. He also participated in both the Tibetan Peace March Movements in 1995 and 1996-1997.

6. Mr. DAWA TSERING was born in Tibet in 1945. In 1960 reached India and spent few years in road construction. He is an active member of Regional Tibetan Youth Congress, Ravangla. He served the Tibetan Freedom Movement of Ravangla branch for three years from 1987-1989. In 1989, he participated in TYC's procession against Li-Peng's visit to India and also participated in the first Tibetan Peace March Movement in 1995.
