From: Peaceworkers Subject: Possible visit to Kosovo
Dear Friends,
I was sorry to learn that the nonviolence conference in Kosovo had to be cancelled or postponed. There is still great interest and need by the students and many others in Kosovo to interact with and learn from people active in nonviolent movements and nonviolent peacemaking in other parts of the world. Students in Kosovo have expressed interest in Peaceworkers sending such resource people to Kosovo for periods of one to three weeks to give lectures, lead workshops and give trainings. If you would be interested and available to go to Kosovo to lead workshops and be a resource person in nonviolent movements, please contact us and we will try to help arrange your visit.
If interested, please send us a letter about your interest, experience and availability and your resume and what financial support you would need in getting there. You might also share what you see as your special contribution to their work of building a more effective nonviolent movement.
As you know the situation there is tense and many people are questioning whether active nonviolence can make a difference in stopping the violence and repression and in achieving a just solution. The Serbian government is also making it quite difficult for foreigners to get visas.
If you know someone else who you feel would make a contribution to the nonviolent movement there who might be interested in going, please pass this letter on to them. We will hope to hear from you and thanks for your concern for a peaceful solution in Kosovo.
Warm Greetings and Peace,
David Hartsough
PS Attached is an "Open Letter" I have written to the Student Movement in Kosovo which will give you an idea of the situation there and some of questions they are facing. It has been published in the student newspaper in Kosovo.
