DEBATE ON THE SITUATION IN KOSOVO
Strasbourg, 07/10/1998 (Agence Europe)
On Wednesday, the European Parliament held a further debate on the crisis in Kosovo, during which a growing number of MEPs took a stance in favour of military action given that the repeated calls made to President Milosevic have remained without response. Several MEPs feel no lasting solution will be possible in Kosovo unless there is true democratisation in Serbia. ... Dupuis, on behalf of the Radical Alliance, noted that Milosevic is willing to give way on the part of Kosovo that is not useful, in order to keep the richest part, which will mainly allow him to bettercontrol an ally that is becoming more and more difficult, Montenegro. Like other MEPs taking the floor, Mr Dupuis considers that a mandate to appear before the court in The Hague would be the best weapon against Milosevic.
